This sensor is mounted on the throttle body to monitor and collect data on the engine’s speed and throttle position. The signal generated by the TPS is sent to the ECU (Engine Control Unit) or ECM (Engine Control Module) to adjust the fuel-air mixture entering the combustion chamber. Nowadays, TPS sensors are usually designed as non-contact sensors. The structure of this type of sensor is quite simple. Depending on the classification, the throttle position sensor will have a different structure. Typically, this component is installed on the throttle body to monitor and collect data on the engine load, throttle position, and speed. The signal generated by the TPS is sent to the ECU (Engine Control Unit) or ECM (Engine Control Module) to adjust the fuel-air mixture entering the combustion chamber.

The operating principle of the TPS sensor is based on the operation of a sliding potentiometer. When the accelerator pedal is pressed, the no-load signal line is disconnected, and the device rotates to detect the voltage value and related data. The sensor has two potentiometers that provide feedback to the system. When one of the two potentiometers increases linearly, the resistance value of the throttle valve decreases. At this time, the voltage value (throttle position information) is transmitted to the ECU (Engine Control Unit) to reflect the change in throttle speed and opening. From here, the control unit forms a closed-loop system, ensuring that the TPS can accurately calibrate and rotate the throttle valve.
