Daewoo Gentra 2009 Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS) – Part Number 25198942
This high-quality crankshaft position sensor (CPS) is a genuine GM/OEM part, manufactured in South Korea. It’s brand new and guaranteed for quality.
What is a Crankshaft Position Sensor?
The crankshaft position sensor is a crucial component in your vehicle’s engine. It measures the crankshaft’s rotational speed and position. This information is sent to the Engine Control Unit (ECU), which uses it to calculate ignition timing and fuel injection. As the crankshaft rotates, the sensor’s ferrous teeth pass through a magnetic field, generating an AC signal. The ECU uses this signal to determine the crankshaft’s speed and position. The main components of the sensor include an induction coil, a permanent magnet, and a rotor with teeth (the number of teeth varies depending on the engine type). The sensor is typically located near the crankshaft pulley, above the flywheel, or directly on the crankshaft. Depending on the vehicle’s engine, the CPS may have two or three wires. The required tightening torque during installation is 10 N.m. A functioning sensor typically exhibits a resistance of 200-500 Ω and a voltage of 0.2-2 V.
How the Magnetic Type Crankshaft Position Sensor Works
The magnetic type CPS consists of an electromagnetic coil, a permanent magnet core, and a toothed ring that generates pulses. Other components include the sensor housing, signal output wire, wire protection cover, exciter teeth, and an air gap. The sensor is usually positioned near the flywheel, directly measuring the crankshaft’s speed and position. As the pistons move and the crankshaft rotates, pulses are generated and sent to the ECU. The ECU uses pre-programmed algorithms to count these pulses within a specific time frame, calculating the crankshaft’s speed. Magnetic sensors produce a sine wave signal, while Hall effect and optical sensors produce a square wave signal. Regular inspection and maintenance are vital for smooth engine operation.
Symptoms of a Failing Crankshaft Position Sensor
A malfunctioning CPS can severely impact your vehicle’s performance. Common symptoms include:
- Inaccurate signals sent to the ECU, resulting in improper engine speed adjustments, leading to slow or erratic acceleration.
- Engine shaking or rough idling due to misfiring in one or more cylinders caused by incorrect ignition timing.
- Inefficient fuel injection due to the lack of precise ignition information, resulting in increased fuel consumption.
- Illumination of the check engine light.
